The day I left on the 19th was crazy

These two little scrappies were actually picked up a few hours before I left, destined for 2 excited girls.

Life has been super crazy for months, with all the preparations for this adventure, so I haven't been able to sit & create a lot of fibre art, but I've loved the moments I have had.

Now, as we sit in a holding pattern, I find myself without a lot of the supplies to create, but more time 😂 Life is so funny sometimes.

Ah well, I'll figure it out...

This little scrappie critter was a custom make for a little one who loves rockets.

It's one of my toothfairy pillows (made with a pocket big enough to pop in a little written note or a coin, depending on your tooth fairy), but with an added lavender sachet, which also fits in the pocket.

I felt it made sense to have the lavender sachet made from some girls in science fabric to go with the rocket theme, what do you think?

Finally!!!! I managed to get these pants into the

I'm back to making & sending postcards as part of

I'm back to making & sending postcards as part of a fabric postcard swap group I'm a part of.

The outlines were drawn with black thread on my sewing machine, using a free motion foot. I then added colour with watercolours. There's still a bit of work for me to do to try to reduce bleeding that is evident from the watercolours (smaller brush would be a good start), but overall, I'm having fun with playing around with different methods. Being able to make fabric postcards can be somewhat limiting, but I also find it reduces becoming overwhelmed, with a larger, more complicated piece.

I've had some vision changes of late , so strong contrasts in colour are generally easier to work with & have helped to reduce some artistic frustrations I've had, which is why I am playing around more with this process too.

This month's theme was "weather" and I liked the idea of attempting to capture wind & titled this "A Blustery Day".

I'm getting back into making fabric postcards & la

I'm getting back into making fabric postcards & labels from scraps of fabric. This is one that I did for a fibre postcard swap this month. The theme was "Eat Dessert". I quite enjoy making these little pieces as they allow me to experiment with different methods, same as my scrappies do.

I mucked up the centring on this one by accident, cutting it face down, with the backing fabric obscuring it, but I'm still pretty happy with it. Next time, I'll know not to do that. 🙃

This weekend is the Spencerville Art Explosion eve

This weekend is the Spencerville Art Explosion event. It is going to be such a wonderful event, with lots of activities and artisans, makers & local businesses about. I highly recommend going if you can.

On a personal note, I have unfortunately had to cancel my attendance at the event. Sometimes life requires you to re-evaluate plans & not ignore what presents itself.

I have never cancelled attendance at an event before, but I have recently become aware of a friend from Australia coming to Ottawa this weekend. I haven't seen her in 15 years. She has Ushers & is already completely blind in one eye. So for me, as much as I would love to attend the art event, this trumps those plans, as I can't do both. There will be other art events, people are irreplaceable though.

Life is short.

Check it out!!!

We found a lovely couple of nests, courtesy of K1 who spotted them this afternoon. I've never seen two nests attached like this before, aren't they cool? Feliz & Fly happily posed with them to give an idea of size.

Both nests are empty at the moment, but we'll be keeping an eye out to see whether they are reused this season. I guess we were so focused on the fly catchers nest at the back door that we missed these nests.

Happy Tuesday!

It's been a wonderful long weekend here for us. Feliz & Fly love coming on all our adventures as you can tell from the big grins (permanently sewn) on their faces 🤣

This is the view we had last night from our anchor just off Sugar Island in the Thousand Islands. We love to sail & enjoy sailing ⛵️ around the Thousand Islands, which is why you rarely see me at summer events, sharing my art. This makes my participation at the Spencerville Art Explosion event even more special. *hint hint*

Would love to see you there, if you can make it. I am confirmed for July 22nd outside Trinkets Boutique in Spencerville (located within Hubbard & Co) 15 Spencer St. Spencerville. Hours are 10am until at least 4pm (I may stay until 6pm though, depends on how things are going).

This little bat is available for adoption now & unless adopted earlier will be with me for the Spencerville Art Explosion event (hosted by Visit Spencerville (@visitspencerville on IG) on July 22nd & 23rd, (although I might only be there for the Saturday a vendor, due to other commitments). I'll be set-up outside Trinkets Boutique Spencerville (@trinketsboutiquespencerville on IG).

Not only will I have my scrappies, but I'll have the last of my aprons too & a few order things, that I'm keen to move on.

I don't have any other commitments this year for any other markets & my family has committed to a rather large life change, so this is very likely to be the last event I do this year, so if you can, pop in & say hi.

Of course you can also order from me direct, either via my website (although I have more than what is shown there available) or you can message me.

This little one is a little overdue to post about, I only just realised it wasn't in my page. This little pocket-sized scrappie bat was a special request & lots of fun to make with it's little fang.

I actually love bats. I took the kids to the biodome in Montreal not that long ago & was quite happy to see the kids so happy to watch them flying around & eating too.

This little pocket sized scrappie critter was a sp

This little pocket sized scrappie critter was a special request. The orca was thread drawn on the fabric & then I went back around it & coloured it in, mostly with black thread, but there is a little bit of grey & blue in there too. The orca image was created entirely with a free motion foot. It's a rather time intensive process, but I do enjoy it & I really like the result, as it's not supposed to be perfect or look like it was automated.

I drew the orca on a scrap piece of fabric left over from a table cloth that I upcycled (into a weighted bag), in part because I really wanted the image to be seen. I picked blue for the front as I wanted the orca to be in "water". Green & purple were other colours the requester liked. This particular piece of green fabric with snowflakes is one I like because I wanted a little bit of summer vs winter to be captured, given we live in Canada.

This little pocket-sized scrappie critter loves adventure. They even carry a compass with them everywhere. The back is this lovely little piece of blue patterned fabric that I thought looked like water.

This one is already adopted & will be headed to their new home in a few weeks from now. Going to a little guy who travels with his family. 🚌

Bats are wonderful creatures. I've always loved them, although I did hate having to clean the fruit bats guano off my car in Australia, when we were living there. 😅 They were still pretty cool to see roost in the mango tree we had in the last place we lived in there, though.

This little pocket-sized scrappie critter was a fun custom make. I loved that I got to combine a bat with a freehand embellished mushroom. So cute.

Life is a journey. The people that you meet along your journey make life all the more interesting.

This little blue bookworm themed scrappie critter was a special make for someone that I respect a lot & am very happy to call a friend, after our paths crossed with work.

Today marks a continued chapter in a book that wouldn't exist without their trust in my abilities, so it's lovely to see this little one having pride of place on their desk. Thank you K.

This little one is on its way to the 8th Annual Wonderland Tea Party for Youth Mental Health on June 11th, 2023

The event raises funds to improve access to mental health support for kids under 12, and has supported families I know, so it has been very important for me to continue to support it over the years. Up until now, I have always donated aprons to the silent auction table. This year, I decided to donate a little pocket-sized scrappie critter though. This one is blue like Alice's dress (on the front at least) & with a flower because of course Wonderland is full of flowers too.

I picked the pocket-sized because they're a great stress ball size, which seemed appropriate. I know I love to carry mine everywhere.

There are a tonne of other items that have been donated, so do check out their page. Also, if you happen to be attending the event & see this one, send me a pic. I'd love to see what this one gets up to that afternoon. 🙃

Today, was a bit of a wet day locally, but it didn't stop us from procrastinating & doing other errands instead of getting some stuff done around the house. It was great to see our friend & artist, Jennifer Holmes who creates lovely art pieces under Harry Tatters Art @harrytattersartco

Jen is at the Kinsmens Park in Smith's Falls again tomorrow & the weather's supposed to be nicer than today, so if you can, do pop in to see her & her gorgeous works.
